Review:
Simon (Ashton Kutcher) and Theresa (Zoe Saldana)
are engaged and they plan to tell her parents
when visiting to celebrate the parents' re-taking
of their marriage vows after 25 years together.
Theresa has neglected to tell her parents
that her fiancé is white. Her father,
Percy (Bernie Mac), is none too pleased when
he first sets eyes on his future son-in-law.
Percy did a background check on Simon and
he looked fine on paper. Theresa was taught
to look at people, not color, which was fine
until she brought home a white fiancé.
Percy intimidates Simon terribly just by looking
at him. Then, he sleeps with Simon in the
basement to make sure that there is no hanky-panky.
Meanwhile, Percy lies to co-workers about
Simon because he is not black and he doesn't
participate in any sports. Simon lies to Percy
and says that he crewed for Jeff Gordon on
his NASCAR team. These two men need to get
to know each other and accept each other.
The way in which they finally manage this
is very entertaining. There is a lot of sex
related humor, with cross-dressing, masturbation,
pre-marital sex and the size of a white man's
penis all brought up. The characters drink
to work out problems and sometimes get tipsy.
The Jones' have been together for 25 years
and they are a very strong family unit. Simon
was raised by a single parent and is a little
worried about his fathering skills. Love does
conquer all in this enjoyable movie. You might
discuss any differences in race, religion
or the like that you have been involved with.
Has the world outlook improved and become
more open minded in recent years? How is it
different now from you were a child?

Thomas is a native Minnesotan. She
graduated from the University of
Minnesota with a double major in
sociology and psychology. Married
with a family, she has remained
in the Minneapolis area.
Linda has been a lover of movies
since she was a small child. This
love of film eventually brought
her to the point in life where
she is now, a film critic. She
was featured on WCCO radio for
three years on the Dark
in the Morning show with
Dark Star.
In December of 2001, Linda became
the film critic for the syndicated
Ruth Koscielak Show.
Linda sees over 150 movies a
year and has had the opportunity
to interview a number of directors
and actors when they are in town.
She has also appeared on a public
access show called the "Cinema
Judge" and has ventured into
writing for "Cinestar"
magazine in September 2002. The
Twin Cities movie magazine is
available, for free, at most local
Blockbuster's and local movie
cheaters.
As one of the few female reviewers
in the Twin Cities area, she brings
a unique point of view to her
reviews. Linda has raised two
children, a boy and a girl, and
knows what they like in movies
and what is appropriate. Hopefully,
her reviews will help your family
in choosing where to next spend
your movie-going dollar.
